At
Mountaintop we talk a lot about being a community that is learning and sharing
a better way to live. We believe that
Jesus offers us not just a way to live forever but also a better way to live
today. Very simply:
Life is better with Jesus and Jesus makes us better at life.
We
are convinced that Jesus offers us a better way to raise kids, handle money,
offer and receive forgiveness, be a friend, be single, be generous, serve
others, grieve, love…the list is endless.
This
weekend we are focusing on a better way to be married. On Sunday evening Ted Lowe of MarriedPeople will be speaking at our Oh What A
Night couples’ dessert and sharing ways to keep fun in our
relationships. Oh What A Night is sold
out but we have lots of room in our Sunday morning services where Ted will we
help us learn how to better use our words (guess
what John Mayer song he asked us to perform before he teaches – hint: you can
call him “Captain Backfire”).
MarriedPeople
is committed to helping churches help marriages by introducing couples to the Core 4 Habits of a Great Marriage:
Have Serious Fun
Having fun as a couple is not
optional; it’s essential. We believe the best way to protect your marriage is
to enjoy it regularly.
Respect and Love
Of the few verses God gives
to husbands and wives, the directive to respect and love is commanded more than
any other. This truth really can set us free when we understand the interplay
of respect and love.
Love God First
When Jesus was asked about
the greatest commandment, His answer was to love God with all you are and to
love others as well as you love yourself. Loving God in your individual life
greatly impacts your married life.
Practice Your Promise
Our spouses trusted that we
would do what we promised when we said, “I do”— to love each other and to stay
together no matter what. Knowing and experiencing a lasting commitment is vital
to every marriage.
This
is a perfect weekend to invite a couple to join us so we can share a better way
to be married.
PS –
In coming weeks we will have more opportunities to learn and share better ways
to live. April 25 and 26 our men are retreating to learn a better life. It will be a “how-to” retreat where we explore what it means to be a
man and what we must do to serve one another, our families, our church, and
most importantly, God. Sometimes we get and right and sometimes we get it wrong
and God has something to say about both.
We will hear real-life stories from men who and faced and overcome the
challenges all of us face and have found healing through their relationship
with Jesus Christ. For more information
click on A Better Life and watch for sign up
opportunities on Sunday mornings.
